Responsibilities
- Own the design, development, and evolution of C++ software components interfacing with OS drivers and hardware for high-bandwidth, low-latency robot control.
- Drive technical direction and architecture decisions for hardware interface software.
- Integrate software, electrical, mechanical, and robotic systems across cross-disciplinary teams.
- Debug cross-domain problems and establish practices for diagnostics, observability, and failure handling.
- Integrate computing systems over WiFi, networking, serial communications, and industrial fieldbuses.
- Write performant, tested, maintainable, and documented C++ software.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance while raising engineering standards.
- Build prototypes and lead complex technical efforts that turn component assemblies into functional, testable robotic systems.
Requirements
- MS in robotics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of industry experience.
- Strong expertise with modern C++ for complex, performance-sensitive systems.
- Experience designing and delivering large-scale software with significant hardware/software integration complexity.
- Deep understanding of performant, maintainable, reliable production software engineering practices.
- Proficiency using and programming for recent Linux systems.
- Extensive experience writing and debugging software for hardware-in-the-loop systems.
- Experience debugging electrical, mechanical, and software problems involving electromechanical systems.
- Experience implementing automation fieldbuses such as EtherCAT, CAN, or Profinet; EtherCAT is highly desirable.
- Ability to lead technical discussions, influence engineering decisions, and communicate across disciplines.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Bonus qualifications include real-time or low-latency systems, embedded C++, electronic circuit debugging tools, brushless motor control, Linux networking, Python, Jira, Git, and continuous integration and deployment experience.
