Base Salary
$160k - $190k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture and evolution of the pod’s systems.
- Decide when to introduce eventing, workflow orchestration, caching, asynchronous pipelines, or new services.
- Design systems for horizontal scale and consistent low latency under real-world traffic.
- Decompose existing services into scalable components when materially beneficial.
- Instrument systems and use data to evaluate engineering decisions and shipped work.
- Apply test-driven development and treat quality, reliability, and observability as first-class concerns.
- Present Product and Design with options and recommendations.
- Mentor, review, challenge, and elevate the team’s architectural and systems thinking.
- Own the service-level agreements for the pod’s production surfaces.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and operating high-traffic, customer-facing systems.
- Strong computer science fundamentals, object-oriented design, and relational database design and reasoning.
- Experience with eventing, workflow orchestration, distributed systems tradeoffs, caching, asynchronous pipelines, idempotency, and backpressure.
- Comfort working across multiple languages and stacks, including PHP/Magento backend and React/Next frontend systems on AWS.
- Working knowledge of AWS services including Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, and SQS.
- Ability to reason about tradeoffs among relational, document, and wide-column data stores.
- Track record of shipping high-impact customer-facing features in production at scale.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as New Relic or Datadog.
- Concise, high-level communication and a big-picture systems-and-outcomes orientation.
