Responsibilities
- Prepare technical design specifications and written knowledge-transfer materials.
- Review functional requirements, analysis, and design documents and provide feedback.
- Implement, test, maintain, debug, and support software based on technical specifications.
- Design and implement improvements to existing applications and codebases.
- Lead architecture, design, implementation, and code reviews for scalable web services and distributed systems.
- Identify recurring issues and patterns, improve system quality, and develop standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues, product stakeholders, customer support, and cross-functional teams on technical solutions.
- Investigate and adopt relevant new technologies.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor less experienced developers, and guide complex engineering projects.
- Balance business, product, and technical priorities while making independent decisions.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience developing systems or software for large business environments, including 10 years of Java Enterprise Edition experience.
- Strong object-oriented design and service-oriented architecture principles, preferably implemented with Java.
- Strong experience leading the architecture, design, and implementation of robust, highly scalable web services.
- Experience with AWS and/or Azure SaaS infrastructure, DevOps technologies, and extensive debugging.
- Experience with unit, test-driven, functional, and performance testing.
- At least 8 years of experience developing mission-critical, low-latency solutions for large business environments.
- At least 5 years of experience developing and debugging distributed systems and working with cloud-based big-data systems.
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database systems and data architecture.
- Experience with React is advantageous.
- Experience integrating with event buses such as Pulsar and cloud-based big-data solutions such as Snowflake is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of software security-enhancing tools and best practices and at least one shell scripting language.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a master's degree is a plus.
- Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, organizational, interpersonal, collaboration, and customer-focus skills.
