Base Salary
$79k - $131k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build resilient, observable distributed services and integration components using Java and, where appropriate, Node.js/JavaScript.
- Configure and manage Kong Gateway routes, services, plugins, rate limiting, authentication, mutual TLS, logging, and declarative configurations.
- Implement gateway security and traffic policies, blue/green and canary releases, and zero-downtime migrations.
- Build and maintain an HL7 FHIR data facade that maps internal domain data to FHIR resources for reading, searching, and transformation.
- Develop backend integrations with downstream REST, gRPC, and messaging or queue systems while managing schema and contract evolution.
- Own the API lifecycle from OpenAPI design and implementation through automated testing, versioning, and SLO-driven operations.
- Create and maintain API specifications, mocks, and validation pipelines.
- Implement OAuth2/OIDC flows, token introspection, service-to-service authentication, secure coding practices, and least-privilege network policies.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional backend software engineering experience.
- Proficiency in Java and working proficiency in JavaScript and Node.js.
- Experience with RESTful API design, OpenAPI/Swagger, contract testing, backward compatibility, and versioning.
- Hands-on Kong API Management experience configuring routes, plugins, authentication, rate limiting, declarative YAML configurations, and CI/CD integrations.
- Understanding of distributed-systems fundamentals including statelessness, service discovery, retries, circuit breakers, and caching.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, TLS/mTLS, HTTP/2, HTTP/1.1, proxies, load balancing, and troubleshooting tools such as cURL and traceroute.
- Experience with HL7 FHIR, adapters, FHIR resource modeling, and transformations involving resources such as Patient, Observation, and Encounter.
- Experience with unit, integration, and contract testing, test automation, and YAML-based workflow pipelines.
- Experience deploying and operating services in cloud or containerized environments such as Docker or Kubernetes.
