Responsibilities
- Prototype, design, develop, and support scalable SaaS cloud security data platform and middleware services.
- Build and operate data services handling millions of transactions per second and hundreds of terabytes of data.
- Review application architecture, identify data-scale requirements, evaluate emerging technologies, and move proofs of concept into production.
- Own data platform technologies, advocate for the platform, and contribute enhancements to the open-source community when appropriate.
- Instrument day-one and day-two operations, migrate and scale systems in the cloud with minimal downtime, and improve availability and cost efficiency.
- Deliver resilient client SDKs for applications communicating with platform data sources.
- Develop and maintain Qualys’ big-data platform with goals including performance, scalability, high availability, security, and reliability.
- Collaborate with engineering, product management, operations, and application teams on platform and infrastructure features.
- Produce high-quality software using maintainable architecture and design principles.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, best practices, and instrumentation guidance across multiple teams.
- Apply security coding practices and data security fundamentals across teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience developing SaaS software products and solutions for service-oriented deployments in public or private clouds.
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, analytical debugging, and data-driven problem solving.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly within and across teams.
- Experience with distributed data systems such as Redis, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Cassandra, Spark, Hadoop, Apache Flink, and OLAP systems such as ClickHouse.
- Java programming experience including object-oriented design, prototyping, development, testing, and profiling.
- Knowledge of JVM concepts including garbage collection, heap, stack, profiling, and class loading.
- Experience with infrastructure orchestration and automation tools such as Terraform.
- Hands-on experience using CI/CD pipelines and agile software development methodologies.
- Preferred knowledge of distributed systems, data encryption, data security standards, Docker, Kubernetes, Graphite, Grafana, Prometheus, Consul, Vault, Vagrant, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Maven, Ant, and Gradle.
- Ability to mentor peers, provide thought leadership, and work collaboratively in a remote and transparent engineering environment.
