Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of a multi-market storefront using Next.js and TypeScript.
- Choose rendering strategies and design end-to-end caching across CDN, edge, and browser layers.
- Own performance optimization across bundle size, hydration cost, and time to first byte in multiple regions.
- Build and maintain Node.js orchestration services using REST or GraphQL between the storefront and commerce services.
- Implement multilingual, multi-currency catalog and pricing experiences.
- Develop payment and checkout flows using gateways such as Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
- Support A/B testing and analytics tracking, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and rollback procedures.
- Mentor mid-level engineers and collaborate with Gradion and client engineering teams on architecture and implementation.
- Experiment with AI developer tools including Cursor, Claude, and Copilot.
Requirements
- 5+ years of engineering experience building production web applications at scale, with recent experience weighted toward frontend work.
- Strong command of TypeScript, React, Next.js, JavaScript, and browser fundamentals.
- Backend experience with Node.js and REST or GraphQL APIs, including storefront and commerce-service orchestration.
- Strong understanding of rendering and caching strategies and their trade-offs.
- Hands-on experience deploying to a CDN or edge platform such as Cloudflare, Vercel, or CloudFront.
- Working exposure to AWS services such as Lambda and S3.
- Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
- Good spoken and written English for daily technical discussions, architecture sessions, and pairing with European engineers.
- Willingness to learn the Shopify ecosystem.
- Preferred qualifications include Shopify headless development with Storefront API, Functions, or Checkout UI Extensions; e-commerce or conversion-focused product experience; subscription or recurring purchase experience; Playwright or Cypress; analytics tools; and headless CMS platforms.
