Responsibilities
- Tackle applied AI and ML problems involving post-training, voice AI, and long-horizon task execution.
- Determine when to build specialized models versus use externally provided frontier intelligence while balancing quality, speed, and cost.
- Translate ambiguous product and customer problems into well-framed machine learning problems.
- Develop, fine-tune, evaluate, and deploy models that improve customer-facing AI agents.
- Advance supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, and long-horizon optimization methods.
- Build rigorous evaluations connecting model performance to real-world agent quality.
- Work with large-scale proprietary text and audio interaction datasets.
- Collaborate across Sierra to move experiments into production deployment and customer impact.
Requirements
- Strong experience building and deploying production machine learning and AI systems.
- Experience working deeply with data, experimentation, evaluation, and model iteration.
- Strong judgment in selecting effective modeling or simpler approaches for product problems.
- Ability to work with high agency across the stack when needed to deliver outcomes.
- A degree in computer science, machine learning, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Preferred experience with supervised fine-tuning or reinforcement learning.
- Preferred experience in search, ranking, recommendations, advertising, or high-volume ML products.
- Preferred experience training and deploying language, speech, or multimodal models.
- Preferred experience designing model evaluations tied to real-world product outcomes.
- Contributions to applied ML research or benchmarks are preferred.
