Responsibilities
- Own and carry an embedded firmware subsystem from design and interface definition through simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, hardware bring-up, and production.
- Develop boot firmware, Linux kernel and drivers, management-plane services, and bare-metal code on constrained cores using C, C++, and Python.
- Build firmware tests, bench scripts, hardware-in-the-loop tests, and device-model contributions to reproduce and diagnose failures.
- Lead multi-engineer initiatives, coordinate scope and interfaces with FPGA and Systems Software teams, and review and document engineering work.
Requirements
- Strong C experience on bare metal and C/C++ experience on Linux, with depth in either bare-metal/RTOS firmware or Linux kernel and driver development and working competence in the other.
- Knowledge of interrupt design, synchronization, atomic operations, memory ordering, cache maintenance, shared memory, DMA buffers, and fixed memory and timing budgets.
- Experience shipping firmware on real hardware and debugging with an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, JTAG, and serial console.
- Experience with embedded Linux platform work, Yocto/OpenEmbedded or similar, U-Boot or UEFI, and device trees.
- Experience writing software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop tests for owned firmware and owning a subsystem from design through production.
- Useful qualifications include platform management, precision timing, FPGA soft cores, OpenBMC, Redfish, PLDM over MCTP, I2C/SMBus/PMBus, IEEE 1588 PTP or SyncE, FPGA soft-core targets, and accelerator or data-center hardware.
Benefits
- Meaningful stock options and employer-contributed retirement plans.
- Annual Living-Local Bonus for employees living within 20 minutes of the office.
- Eligibility to work at OLIX is subject to U.S. export-control citizenship or permanent-residency restrictions, including restrictions affecting certain listed countries.
About OLIX
OLIX designs specialized semiconductors and rack-scale systems to accelerate AI token production, re-architecting data centers with dedicated machines, fast interconnects, and optics. Its first product, the Decode Accelerator 1 (DX-1), targets the decode stage of large-model inference to improve throughput and efficiency for hyperscalers and AI platform operators. Privately held and founded in 2024, OLIX recruits across London, Bristol, Austin, Toronto, and San Francisco.
