Responsibilities
- Contribute to Google Cloud infrastructure using Kubernetes, serverless technologies, and Terraform while building paved paths for engineering teams.
- Improve CI/CD infrastructure by making builds faster, rollouts safer, and failures clearer.
- Anticipate platform needs from Freetrade’s product roadmap and design scalable services with engineering teams.
- Help teams incorporate AI into development, debugging, and incident investigation workflows while improving tooling, context, and guardrails.
- Support monitoring, diagnostics, observability, alerting, and SLO practices so teams can operate their own services.
- Partner with security, risk, and compliance teams to turn regulatory requirements into infrastructure guardrails.
- Deploy, monitor, maintain, and progressively own platform capabilities in production.
Requirements
- Experience building, shipping, and operating production backend services through deployment and production operations.
- Interest in platform engineering and understanding how systems ship, run, and scale; prior platform-management experience is not required.
- Hands-on experience with a major cloud provider, with GCP preferred and AWS or Azure considered transferable.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform and deployment to Kubernetes, serverless platforms, or both.
- Practical experience fixing or accelerating CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to understand how code runs and affects system performance and operations, regardless of primary programming language.
- Critical daily use of AI tools and ability to explain their limitations; ML expertise is not required.
- Knowledge of a scripting language such as JavaScript or Python, with an instinct for automation.
- Comfort working with ambiguity, unfamiliar code, and incomplete problems.
- Interest in building secure, compliant infrastructure for systems handling real people’s money; investing interest is a bonus.
