Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and technical leadership for complex AI Engineering initiatives.
- Design and implement enterprise-wide AI models and solutions for complex healthcare challenges.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, clinicians, translation engineers, software engineers, and product managers to define requirements, scope, feasibility, and deliverables.
- Develop scalable data architectures and participate in the full AI solution lifecycle from concept through deployment and evaluation.
- Contribute directly to the codebase as a hands-on full-stack developer across frontend and backend systems.
- Evaluate and recommend technologies for continued innovation across the Center for Digital Health.
- Provide consultative services for complex business problems and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior architects and engineers, with possible supervisory responsibilities.
- Establish risk management and robust testing strategies for technology solutions.
Requirements
- A master's degree in engineering, computer science, health science, or a related field with 10 years of experience, or a bachelor's degree with 12 years of experience.
- At least 10 years of experience applying AI and machine learning in production healthcare environments or similar highly regulated or technology-focused industries.
- Demonstrated leadership managing large projects involving complex architectures and delivering successful outcomes.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages, such as Python, Java, C++, and JavaScript.
- Considerable experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
- Experience using large language models as part of a solution.
- Deep understanding of cloud computing platforms, data structures, algorithms, Good Machine Learning Practices, data security, data engineering, data science, AI Engineering, and MLOps.
- Experience developing and deploying machine learning systems in the cloud.
- Preferred PhD or other doctorate degree.
- Preferred knowledge of healthcare workflows, electronic health records, medical terminologies, HIPAA, GDPR, HL7, DICOM, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Current, demonstrable full-stack development experience across frontend and backend systems.
- Strong collaboration, communication, stakeholder management, mentoring, risk assessment, and time management skills.
