Responsibilities
- Design and build advertising and marketing platform features that help eBay sellers and advertisers grow their businesses.
- Develop scalable, highly available applications, APIs, and backend services using Marko, React, Node.js, Java, and Scala.
- Own complex features end to end from technical design and architecture through deployment and production support.
- Drive system design, architectural decisions, technical tradeoffs, and cross-team collaboration for reliable and maintainable solutions.
- Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, testing, and code review.
- Contribute to AI-powered advertising and marketing features, including LLM integrations, recommendation systems, and intelligent campaign optimization.
- Mentor team members, participate in technical discussions, and help establish engineering best practices.
Requirements
- BS/BA in Computer Science or a related field with 10+ years of work experience, or an MS with 10 years of relevant experience.
- Strong experience with Java and building services with Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Experience building scalable backend systems and RESTful APIs in distributed environments.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.
- Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
- Ability to own end-to-end system design, lead design reviews, make architectural decisions, and evaluate distributed-system tradeoffs.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
- Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, or AI-driven automation in production is a plus.
- Exposure to GraphQL and experience building Federated GraphQL APIs is highly desirable.
- Open-source contribution experience is a plus.
- Strong ownership, collaboration, technical decision-making, and mentoring skills.
