Responsibilities
- Design, build, and enhance AI-powered applications and production backend services for internal and customer-facing use cases.
- Build and maintain AI agents, agentic workflows, multi-step orchestration, tool-calling systems, memory patterns, and evaluation workflows.
- Develop MCP-based integrations and tool interfaces connecting AI systems securely with external platforms, APIs, and business systems.
- Integrate LLM capabilities while balancing performance, reliability, cost, and safety.
- Investigate system issues, improve quality and observability, optimize AI workflow efficiency, and support production incidents.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and architecture teams on scalable AI agent development and deployment patterns.
- Participate in code reviews, release support, experimentation, documentation, and AI engineering best practices.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in software engineering, backend engineering, or applied AI engineering.
- Strong programming skills in Java and/or Python.
- Hands-on experience building AI-powered applications or integrating LLM capabilities into production systems.
- Experience designing or building AI agents, multi-step orchestration workflows, or tool-using automation systems.
- Experience with MCP or similar integration patterns connecting AI systems to external tools, APIs, or enterprise platforms.
- Strong understanding of system design, APIs, distributed systems, and production software engineering fundamentals.
- Familiarity with prompt design, context management, evaluation approaches, and reliability patterns for agent-based systems.
- Ability to work across development, experimentation, and production support in fast-paced delivery environments.
- Experience with multi-agent systems, retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, vector-based architectures, cloud-native infrastructure, monitoring, observability, model evaluation, guardrails, safety patterns, or prompt/version lifecycle management is preferred.
- Experience integrating AI solutions with Salesforce, Jira, Slack, or internal developer tools is preferred.
- Background in workflow automation, event-driven systems, or backend platforms supporting AI-enabled products is preferred.
- Effective cross-functional collaboration, ownership, practical problem-solving, and delivery focus.
Benefits
- Remote contract engagement with 100% allocation at approximately 40 hours per week.
- Engagement is available to candidates based in APAC or LATAM.
- Candidates must provide working-hours overlap with U.S. Central Time; APAC candidates should also provide some India Standard Time overlap, preferably extending through 11:00 a.m. U.S. Central Time.
