Responsibilities
- Generate AI skills and context prompts to automate storage engine, code, and configuration generation.
- Manage and operate large-scale Amazon Aurora MySQL and Aurora PostgreSQL production clusters.
- Perform database version upgrades, patching, parameter tuning, and Blue/Green Deployment-based migrations with minimal downtime.
- Monitor and analyze database performance using AWS CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and internal monitoring tools.
- Resolve performance bottlenecks through query optimization, index tuning, configuration adjustments, capacity planning, and scaling recommendations.
- Ensure database availability and reliability through proactive monitoring, incident response, on-call participation, failover strategy design, and recovery validation.
- Develop and maintain Python automation scripts, internal tools, and operational frameworks to reduce manual intervention.
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for database operations.
- Partner with application development, infrastructure, and security teams on database architecture and related projects, including SPIRE-based database authentication.
- Participate in change management and conduct reviews of database changes.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Engineer.
- 2+ years of experience creating AI automation for personal or company workflows, storage, or code.
- 5+ years of production experience managing Amazon Aurora MySQL and/or Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Strong expertise in MySQL 8.0 or later, including replication, InnoDB internals, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, including extensions, vacuuming, and major version upgrades.
- Proficiency with AWS database services and related services including Aurora, RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, VPC, and Parameter Groups.
- Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages for automation.
- Experience operating databases in large-scale, high-traffic environments exceeding 10,000 TPS.
- Effective written and verbal English communication in a multinational environment is preferred.
- Preferred experience includes Blue/Green Deployment, logical or snapshot-based database migrations, database security, Terraform, CloudFormation, Grafana, Prometheus, CI/CD, GitOps, NoSQL databases, and NewSQL databases.
