Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services for real-time and analytical data processing.
- Own features end to end, from shaping the approach through production operation.
- Optimize pipelines and services for low latency, high throughput, and scale.
- Collaborate with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders on direction and delivery.
- Contribute to design reviews and explain technical trade-offs.
- Maintain service health through observability, feedback loops, and incident response.
- Raise engineering standards through code review, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience with production systems built and supported.
- Experience working in a product-focused organization and collaborating cross-functionally.
- Comfort working across Kotlin, Java, Python, and TypeScript.
- Ability to reason about throughput, latency, consistency, and cost trade-offs.
- Strong system design skills alongside low-level implementation ability.
- Experience building and deploying services on AWS or GCP.
- Hands-on exposure to Kafka, Flink, Redis, or clustered Postgres.
- Comfort using agent-based development tools; Sparta uses Claude Code, though equivalent tools are acceptable.
- Clear communication and pragmatic problem-solving skills.
- Nice-to-have experience includes data-intensive applications at scale, observability, distributed environments, and work with DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure teams.
- Exposure to commodities, energy, or financial markets is useful but not required.
