Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise in Airflow, data engineering, Kubernetes, and cloud engineering.
  • Solve challenging Apache Airflow problems for customers, including configuration optimization and identifying previously unknown bugs.
  • Spend up to 20% of time on side projects such as contributing to the open-source Airflow repository or developing internal monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Work directly with customers’ data engineers, system administrators, DevOps teams, and management.
  • Own the customer experience by prioritizing and resolving issues, meeting SLAs, and providing guidance toward production.
  • Provide feedback that can influence the direction of the Airflow project.
  • Help maintain 24x7 coverage through a six-hour pager period during the workday and participate in paid weekend on-call rotations.

Requirements

  • Data engineering background.
  • At least four years of experience with Python.
  • At least one year of experience administering Airflow and creating DAGs.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containers.
  • Experience with distributed systems on a major cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for customer interactions through the ticketing system and Zoom.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members.
  • Open-source contributions, customer support experience, SQL and PostgreSQL familiarity, and experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, dbt, or similar data engineering tools are advantageous.
