Base Salary
$170k - $231k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction for customer-facing registries, APIs, and serving systems within Chainguard Repository.
- Design, build, and operate high-availability Go backend services serving libraries and expanding to containers, images, and APK repositories.
- Lead scalability, reliability, observability, performance, and load-testing initiatives for production systems.
- Drive repository architecture, service-boundary, and operational decisions for artifact-serving infrastructure at scale.
- Collaborate with Libraries, Build Platform, Delivery, Product, and Security teams on a cohesive repository experience.
- Mentor engineers, improve design and code review practices, and own meaningful technical deliverables.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems, with evidence of staff-level ownership and technical leadership.
- Strong Go experience or deep backend systems experience with the ability to ramp quickly in Go.
- Experience building or operating customer-facing infrastructure such as package registries, artifact repositories, APIs, developer platforms, or other high-scale serving systems.
- Experience deploying and managing production services with sound judgment around reliability, observability, performance, and operational tradeoffs.
- Comfort working across application and infrastructure layers, including service development, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
- Strong systems instincts, curiosity, problem-solving ability, and proactive platform improvement habits.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in a remote environment.
- Experience with package registries, artifact serving, repository products, Docker registries, GitLab package services, Artifactory, Nexus, or similar platforms is preferred.
- Familiarity with software supply chain security concepts such as provenance, SBOMs, and trusted artifact distribution is preferred.
- Open source experience in tooling, package ecosystems, or developer infrastructure is preferred.
- Experience supporting or expanding multi-artifact repository platforms is preferred.
