Lead Engineer, Order Management

Responsibilities
- Lead complex, multi-sprint order management initiatives from problem framing and technical design through implementation, rollout, and post-launch measurement.
- Design and build reliable stateful services and workflows for checkout, order lifecycle management, fulfillment orchestration, and partner integrations.
- Drive technical decisions by evaluating tradeoffs, reducing technical debt, simplifying systems, and balancing delivery with maintainability.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, Inventory, Fulfillment, Client Experience, and other teams to define scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, and success criteria.
- Improve engineering and operational excellence through automated testing, observability, safe rollout and rollback strategies, incident leadership, remediation, reviews, and mentorship.
- Use AI-assisted development tools and evaluate new technologies to improve engineering productivity, reliability, and delivery quality.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating complex, business-critical backend, distributed, or workflow systems.
- Fluency in at least one modern programming language such as Go, Ruby, Java, or Python, with the ability to work across languages.
- Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including data modeling, transactional semantics, schema evolution, and performance considerations.
- Experience operating services on a major cloud platform such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex initiatives from discovery and design through launch and operational follow-through.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including translating technical complexity into business outcomes and collaborating across technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical standards across a team or broader organization.
- Commitment to automated testing, continuous delivery, observability, safe releases, reliability, and incident learning.
- Fluency with AI-assisted software development tools such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience includes e-commerce, order management, payments, inventory, logistics, fulfillment, high-throughput transactional systems, and third-party integrations involving partial failure, latency, consistency, recovery, and partner constraints.
- Familiarity with Stitch Fix’s ecosystem, including Golang, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, AWS, Kafka, Temporal, and Datadog, is preferred but not required.
