Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and deliver calibration systems end to end, including algorithms, fixtures, on-fixture software, data pipelines, validation, and operator workflows.
  • Own calibration for perception sensors and robot kinematics, including coupled sensor-extrinsic and arm or whole-body kinematic approaches.
  • Establish calibration data and metrics infrastructure for per-unit records, accuracy and drift metrics, traceability, and fleet-level monitoring.
  • Deliver operator-facing calibration fixture applications on Linux.
  • Develop in-field self-check and recalibration capabilities for Digit’s service life.
  • Define calibration requirements for downstream manufacturing, including cycle time, repeatability, data capture, and operator workflow.
  • Coordinate deployment of calibration processes with sensor vendors and contract manufacturers, including documentation, training, and acceptance criteria.
  • Identify, hire, mentor, and develop engineers contributing to calibration work.
  • Set the technical direction and quality standards for calibration accuracy and repeatability.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of practical experience calibrating complex robotic or sensor-rich systems in real production environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering end-to-end calibration systems, including algorithms, fixtures, on-fixture software, validation, and operator workflows.
  • Deep expertise with multiple sensor modalities, including RGB cameras, LiDAR, thermal imagers, IMUs, and encoders, plus working knowledge of kinematic calibration and sensor-extrinsic coupling.
  • Understanding of production calibration requirements such as repeatability, data collection, simplicity, and throughput.
  • Experience building data and metrics infrastructure for calibration at scale.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
  • Ability to execute technical work directly while identifying, hiring, mentoring, and developing other engineers.
  • Effective collaboration skills across hardware, controls, perception, vendors, and contract manufacturers.
  • Hands-on lab and production-floor engineering experience.
  • Preferred experience owning calibration at an autonomous vehicle, mobile robotics, or other hardware company deploying sensor-rich systems at scale.
  • Preferred experience with in-field calibration validation and recalibration, metrology, optical alignment, geometric computer vision, traceability databases, per-unit calibration history, and fleet-wide monitoring.
  • Applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States.

Benefits

  • Fully remote, with optional hybrid work for candidates within commuting distance of the Salem, Oregon; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; or Fremont, California offices.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% company match.
  • Company stock options and company-paid medical, dental, vision, and short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Benefits eligibility begins on the first day of employment.
  • Employee Assistance Program, flexible or defined paid time off depending on classification, and 12 company holidays including a winter shutdown.
  • Catered lunches four times per week and snacks at the Salem and Pittsburgh offices.
  • Paid parental leave, professional development, tuition reimbursement, relocation assistance for eligible roles, and an annual discretionary bonus for eligible roles.
