Responsibilities

  • Assess new technologies and support technical decisions across teams and business units.
  • Translate product specifications into technical requirements and lead successful implementation.
  • Implement, deploy, and maintain features for the Proton Mail Desktop App and related products.
  • Improve software development lifecycle tools and processes, developer experience, and solution scalability.
  • Write clear, concise, testable code and maintain code quality.
  • Manage the scoping, planning, and execution of features, technical initiatives, and greenfield projects.
  • Make architectural decisions and contribute to strategic planning and product direction.
  • Mentor teammates and promote learning, quality assurance, performance optimization, and accountability.
  • Troubleshoot customer issues remotely while protecting user privacy.

Requirements

  • Significant relevant professional software development experience with Rust, or a strong modern C++ background with reasonably complex Rust pet projects.
  • Experience developing high-quality, fast, cross-platform desktop applications for Windows and Linux.
  • Familiarity with native and cross-platform desktop UI frameworks such as Avalonia UI, Qt, or Electron.
  • Experience working on both user interfaces and business logic.
  • Product mindset focused on excellent user experience and familiarity with business and product performance metrics.
  • Experience making architectural decisions, contributing to strategic planning, and developing scalable engineering solutions.
  • Ability to write effective engineering documents and work collaboratively in distributed teams.
  • Excellent written communication and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of secure coding practices and commitment to security and privacy.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with macOS or mobile cross-platform development is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with unidirectional data-flow or Elm-like frameworks is a bonus.
  • Experience with Grafana, Metabase, or other monitoring platforms is a bonus.
  • B2B experience, especially in online privacy or productivity contexts, is a bonus.
