Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable and reliable web-scale applications.
  • Translate functional specifications into logical, component-based technical designs.
  • Build and contribute technically to backend video-service components.
  • Write and review code and evaluate architectural tradeoffs for performance and security.
  • Collaborate with engineering groups across Roku on video-service initiatives.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with limited supervision.
  • Participate in periodic on-call duty and respond to out-of-band requests.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of programming experience with Java core libraries and web-server applications.
  • Experience with object-oriented design, design patterns, high-performance cloud-based microservices, and modern microservices architectures.
  • Experience with REST/JSON API frameworks, Apache, Tomcat, and deploying services on AWS.
  • Experience with Cassandra, DynamoDB, Redis, Oracle, or MySQL.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science plus 8 years of experience or equivalent; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Expertise in OTT video delivery, on-demand/live streaming, DRM, encoding, delivery, and CDNs is highly preferred.
