Base Salary
$210k - $240k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define the multi-quarter technical roadmap for the Business team and align it with company priorities
- Design, build, operate, and maintain high-throughput microservices with strong reliability, latency, and observability
- Deliver features across OfferUp’s five business verticals in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Drive experimentation strategy, A/B testing, metrics analysis, and data-informed product decisions
- Set technical direction, improve engineering quality, and create frameworks that increase team productivity
- Mentor and support engineers and evangelize engineering best practices across the organization
- Partner with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders on feature development and timelines
- Champion AI tooling, agentic workflows, and scalable engineering guidelines
- Participate in the team’s on-call rotation and serve as a subject-matter expert for owned systems
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience building and operating data-driven applications at scale
- Experience analyzing data and translating results into business recommendations
- Production experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot
- Experience balancing engineering improvements with business needs
- Experience developing short- and long-term technical vision for services or features
- Experience guiding and mentoring engineers
- Strong Java skills and fluency in another modern language
- Deep grounding in object-oriented programming, microservices, and distributed-systems design
- Hands-on experience designing and building scalable microservices and distributed systems
- Strong knowledge of data structures and object-oriented design
- Hands-on experience with load balancing and large traffic volumes
- Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure
- BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
- Helpful experience with React, TypeScript, GraphQL, payment integrations, Stripe, Shopify, Statsig, LaunchDarkly, Optimizely, BigQuery, or Snowflake
