Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain backend systems for card issuing and card lifecycle management.
- Lead the technical design and implementation of card certification and card onboarding processes for Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
- Define system architecture, service boundaries, and integration patterns for card platform services.
- Ensure system reliability, scalability, and compliance with payment network standards.
- Collaborate with product, compliance, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
- Establish engineering best practices, code quality standards, and technical documentation.
- Work hands-on as a builder rather than serving in a purely advisory capacity.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience with strong Java and Spring expertise.
- Direct experience building or maintaining a card system.
- Experience with card certification processes or card onboarding programs.
- Strong system design and architecture skills, including experience with distributed systems and high-throughput payment infrastructure.
- Understanding of card network standards, payment flows, and compliance requirements.
- Preferred: experience at a fintech, startup, or crypto company that has issued cards.
- Preferred: familiarity with card lifecycle management, tokenization, and payment gateway integrations.
- Preferred: experience working in agile, fast-paced environments with short release cycles.
