Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend automation frameworks for APIs, services, databases, and end-to-end banking workflows.
- Test transaction processing, ledger consistency, reconciliation, settlement, payouts, financial calculations, and distributed-system failure modes.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, improve execution through parallelization, and create reliable quality gates.
- Build test environments, data setup, mocks, simulators, service virtualization, and containerized test runners.
- Develop load, stress, and resilience test suites for high-volume financial workloads using tools such as JMeter or k6.
- Use logs, metrics, traces, and automation to improve debugging and root-cause analysis.
- Partner with engineers during design and architecture discussions to identify risks, edge cases, and testability gaps.
- Apply AI tools to test generation, synthetic data creation, debugging, and automated root-cause analysis.
- Review automation code, improve testing standards, and mentor junior SDETs.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience building or significantly extending backend automation frameworks.
- Strong experience testing REST APIs, backend services, databases, and service-to-service integrations.
- Ability to reason about retries, idempotency, concurrency, timeouts, duplicate processing, partial failures, and recovery paths.
- Experience validating workflows across APIs, relational databases, events, queues, and downstream services.
- Ability to write complex SQL queries for data-integrity and system-behavior validation.
- Understanding of automated testing integration with CI/CD pipelines and the design of fast, stable, actionable test suites.
- Strong fundamentals in debugging, clean code, Git, data structures, and algorithms.
- Ability to independently understand complex systems, identify high-risk areas, and create effective test strategies.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to challenge backend designs on reliability, correctness, and testability.
- Preferred experience in payments, banking, fintech, or other correctness-critical systems.
- Production-quality automation experience with Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python.
- Preferred experience with ledgers, reconciliation, settlement, payouts, transaction accounting, or double-entry accounting.
- Experience with Java/RestAssured, TypeScript or JavaScript automation frameworks, Maven, or TestNG.
- Experience testing OAuth or HMAC authentication, event-driven architectures, message queues, asynchronous workflows, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, JMeter, k6, mocks, simulators, service virtualization, test-data tooling, observability, Copilot, or LLMs.
