Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate distributed platform services and APIs using Java, Python, Kubernetes, or equivalent cloud-native infrastructure.
- Contribute to Spark-based data pipelines and processing jobs while working across platform and data engineering codebases.
- Build AI, GenAI, and agentic-powered developer, workflow automation, and operational tooling.
- Own reliability, scalability, observability, SLOs, distributed tracing, alerting, capacity planning, and incident response for built services.
- Guide architecture and system design across microservices, event-driven systems, APIs, enterprise integrations, and downstream data engineering workloads.
- Establish architecture, design, code, and production readiness review standards and mentor engineers across multiple teams.
- Set technical direction and platform engineering best practices across the broader GDF organization.
- Evaluate and adopt platform, cloud, and AI technologies that improve reliability, productivity, or business value.
Requirements
- Minimum qualification: bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area plus five years of software engineering experience, or seven years of software engineering experience.
- The team description requests 12+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed platforms.
- Strong hands-on Java and Python proficiency is required; Go, C++, or Scala experience is preferred.
- Deep experience with microservices, distributed systems, event-driven patterns, API design, service contracts, enterprise integration, domain-oriented design, and low-level design.
- Experience with cloud-native engineering, containerization, Kubernetes or equivalent orchestration, infrastructure automation, and production operations.
- Working-level Spark experience is required, with familiarity with Hadoop/HDFS, Hive, or Kafka.
- Experience integrating model APIs and GenAI/LLM tooling, building agentic workflows, using embeddings/vector search, and applying MLOps practices.
- Strong knowledge of observability, distributed tracing, logging, metrics, alerting, incident response, capacity planning, and fault tolerance.
- Knowledge of authentication, authorization, data protection, secure API design, security, privacy, and enterprise engineering practices.
- Ability to translate ambiguous technical and business problems into execution plans and operate with autonomy in a 0-to-1 environment.
- A master's degree plus three years of software engineering experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices is preferred.
