Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical authority for backend and platform architecture across product domains.
- Design, build, and maintain full-stack features using APIs, serverless services, data models, and event-driven workflows.
- Lead technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and RFC processes.
- Resolve performance, reliability, scaling, infrastructure, distributed-system, and technical-debt issues.
- Define engineering practices for code quality, testing, observability, and deployment safety.
- Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Product, and Front-End Engineering on roadmaps and technical feasibility.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, design feedback, and technical guidance.
- Conduct technical interviews and help establish backend engineering standards.
- Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend or full-stack focus and principal- or staff-level experience.
- Deep expertise designing and building serverless architectures on AWS using services including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB or Aurora Serverless, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, S3, and CloudFront.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python for backend services.
- Experience designing and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs, including contracts, versioning, error handling, and type-safe tooling such as OpenAPI, GraphQL Code Generator, or tRPC.
- Experience with infrastructure as code using AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, X-Ray, or Datadog.
- Understanding of IAM, least-privilege access, secrets management, and data encryption.
- Deep experience debugging distributed systems using network traces, distributed tracing, log analysis, and profiling.
- Experience with unit, integration, contract, and load testing for distributed systems.
- Familiarity with containerized workloads using ECS Fargate and Docker.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including RFC writing and design-review leadership.
- Preferred: master's degree, financial-services experience, multi-account AWS architecture, AWS Organizations, Control Tower, Kinesis, MSK, Bedrock, SageMaker endpoints, CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, GraphQL federation, AWS certifications, open-source contributions, and organization-wide technical initiatives.
