Base Salary
$120k - $190k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design resilient Layer 2 and Layer 3 network topologies for V-BAT mission profiles.
- Implement custom routing, TUN/TAP interfaces, user-space tunnels, and socket-level applications on embedded Linux.
- Develop bandwidth-optimized, low-latency communication paths across lossy radio and satellite links.
- Write production-grade C, C++, or Python software for network interfaces, traffic shaping, and link failover.
- Collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, and field operators to validate network performance in hardware-in-the-loop labs and flight tests.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with 4+ years, or PhD with 2+ years.
- Strong proficiency in C, C++, or Python in a Linux environment and experience shipping software interacting directly with the OS networking stack.
- Deep knowledge of Linux networking, including netlink, IP routing tables, iptables/nftables, TUN/TAP, network namespaces, and socket programming.
- Knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, routing protocols, VLAN tagging, QoS and traffic management, and VPN or tunneling mechanisms.
- Experience troubleshooting network degradation with tcpdump, Wireshark, iproute2, and iperf in constrained environments.
- Demonstrated ability to ship products, navigate development cycles, overcome obstacles, and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
- Preferred: embedded Linux networking experience with Yocto or OS customization tools.
- Preferred: experience designing protocols and topologies with RF and hardware engineers for novel radio networks.
- Preferred: experience with networking for robotics, autonomous vehicles, aerospace, or edge-computing hardware.
- Preferred: familiarity with network security, PKI, and cryptographic tunnels in embedded systems.
