Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, sustaining support, and customer issue resolution of major embedded software features.
  • Develop platform, kernel, device-driver, bootloader, and higher-level embedded applications primarily in C/C++.
  • Create and execute unit, integration, system, and feature-level test strategies for software functionality, robustness, performance, and reliability.
  • Contribute to system architecture and technical strategy across multiple subsystems and lead proof-of-concept investigations.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and infrastructure improvements, influence technical direction, and represent the organization in industry, standards, and customer engagements.
  • Provide technical mentoring, design guidance, code reviews, and architectural knowledge transfer to junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, product line management, FPGA, hardware, and product teams to translate requirements into product solutions.
  • Improve code quality through clean implementation, refactoring, automation, technical-debt reduction, and maintenance of unit and integration tests.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code and contribute to AI-related engineering initiatives where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Science, or equivalent education.
  • Typically 8+ years of professional embedded software development experience or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
  • Strong proficiency with Linux development environments, including system administration, debugging, build systems, process management, and performance analysis.
  • Strong understanding of embedded software architecture, multithreading, concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization.
  • Experience developing on Embedded Linux operating systems, including Linux kernel and device-driver development.
  • Experience debugging complex software issues using GDB, core dumps, protocol analyzers, and system tracing tools.
  • Proficiency with Git and modern source-control workflows, including branching, code reviews, and CI/CD integration.
  • Experience implementing or troubleshooting Ethernet, VLAN, MPLS, LACP, STP/RSTP/MSTP, OAM, PTP, or other synchronization technologies.
  • Familiarity with the SAFe development methodology.
  • Strong interpersonal, project-management, analytical, investigative, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and build consensus.
  • Industry experience developing carrier-grade software for telecom/datacom transport equipment is preferred.
  • Preferred qualifications include Layer 2 Ethernet expertise, familiarity with IEEE, ITU, and MEF standards, secure software development, open-source integration and maintenance, ARM-based embedded platforms, NETCONF, SNMP, gNMI, RESTCONF, high-availability architectures, CI/CD, and automated test frameworks.
  • Limited travel may be required.
