Responsibilities
- Design and ship backend services using Java and Spring Boot, with TypeScript or Python where appropriate.
- Own APIs and event-driven flows for money movement, receipts, expense data, and policy decisions.
- Build and extend LLM-backed agents with tool use, grounding, streaming, retrieval, session memory, and evaluations.
- Improve document extraction and auto-itemization quality, latency, cost, tax-field coverage, and provider failover.
- Instrument production systems with observability, quality dashboards, chat satisfaction metrics, and extraction accuracy tracking.
- Partner with Product and Design on employee, admin, finance, mobile, and unified travel-and-expense AI experiences.
- Review financial-system changes for idempotency, auditability, permissions, and prevention of silent partial writes.
- Mentor teammates and write technical designs for distributed teams.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of software engineering experience, including internships or strong academic or personal projects.
- Strong computer science fundamentals and backend experience with Java and Spring Boot, TypeScript and Node.js, or Python.
- Experience with APIs, relational databases, and cloud platforms.
- Exposure to AI tools or projects involving LLMs, chatbots, RAG, document processing, or AI-assisted development.
- Interest in financial or workflow-heavy products such as payments, expenses, accounting, or tax.
- Understanding of testing, debugging, and production-quality engineering, along with good communication and willingness to learn.
- Based in Berlin or London, or willing to relocate.
- Preferred experience includes Java/Spring Boot, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Kafka, event-driven architecture, OCR, financial workflows, multi-currency or policy engines, AI agents, or evaluation tools.
