Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and improve core digital platform services on z/OS.
- Maintain and advance z/OS operating system environments and core subsystems.
- Monitor and optimize Parallel Sysplex and Coupling Facility configurations for high availability.
- Plan and execute SMP/E-based software installations, maintenance, and complex z/OS upgrades.
- Build observability into systems, monitor production health, resolve incidents, and perform root-cause analysis.
- Provide Level 3 support for mainframe operating system infrastructure and implement permanent solutions.
- Apply automated testing, deployment, and software engineering practices to platform services.
- Make technical decisions, develop architecture and system design proposals, and advise stakeholders and technical leadership.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute through code reviews, technical presentations, and internal engineering communities.
- Collaborate with global operational teams and specialized mainframe engineering groups.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in z/OS systems programming or a similar senior engineering role.
- Deep expertise in z/OS operating system architecture, design, implementation, core components, and subsystems.
- Comprehensive experience with Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex operations and Coupling Facility management.
- Hands-on expertise with SMP/E packaging, installation, maintenance, and z/OS system upgrades; experience through z/OS 3.1 is preferred.
- Proficiency in REXX, TSO/ISPF, JCL, and other system programming languages; Assembler experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of z/OS performance tuning, system utilities, monitoring, problem determination, and IBM and non-IBM system management tools.
- Proven Level 3 mainframe infrastructure support experience.
- Ability to write system design and architecture documents and guide technical changes through production.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with fluent written and spoken English required; German is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, make long-term architectural decisions, identify improvements, and mentor colleagues.
