
Senior Software Engineer, Network Simulations

Base Salary
$165k - $225k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture of the eBPF-based routing simulation layer, including XDP and TC hook design, BPF map structures, and synthetic ICMP TTL-exceeded generation.
- Design and build the control-plane topology database and pipeline for compiling real-world internet topology data.
- Architect lightweight in-range proxy agents for local topology configuration, DNS delegation, and traffic forwarding.
- Define control-plane and agent interface contracts, topology update propagation, graceful degradation, and agent lifecycle management.
- Serve as technical lead through architectural decisions, design reviews, and engineering-quality ownership across the team.
- Mentor engineers in systems design, kernel-level debugging, and engineering rigor.
- Partner with engineers and adjacent platform teams on simulation challenges and the operational model for a long-lived, multi-tenant service.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in Linux kernel networking and eBPF program development, including XDP, TC hooks, and BPF map types.
- Strong systems programming skills with C or Rust for eBPF development and Go or Python for control-plane agents and tooling.
- Solid understanding of BGP, ASN topology, CIDR allocation, and inter-AS peering.
- Experience designing systems with control-plane and data-plane separation across distributed components with intermittent central-controller connectivity.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and experience setting architectural direction and driving engineering quality across a team.
- Ability to take research or proof-of-concept work into reliable production systems at scale.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes as a deployment environment for control-plane services and distributed agents.
- Experience with network simulation, traffic shaping, or cyber range infrastructure is a strong plus.
- Prior cybersecurity, defense, or government-adjacent experience is a plus.
