Responsibilities
- Embed with software and firmware teams to identify practical AI use cases, improve workflows, and accelerate adoption.
- Coach developers on AI-assisted coding, testing, documentation, refactoring, debugging, and legacy code modernization.
- Create playbooks, prompt libraries, reusable patterns, and engineering standards for scalable AI adoption.
- Support AI and software Kaizens, hackathon-style sessions, workshops, and technical working sessions.
- Evaluate and champion coding agents, RAG approaches, agentic workflows, and other AI development technologies.
- Build proofs of concept demonstrating improvements in engineering delivery and potential customer-facing innovation.
- Measure adoption, productivity, quality, DORA metrics, and other indicators of engineering improvement.
- Lead through influence across multiple operating companies without direct authority.
Requirements
- Principal-level depth in software engineering, firmware engineering, AI engineering, architecture, developer productivity, or a related technical leadership path.
- Hands-on experience applying AI development tools, large language models, RAG approaches, MCP concepts, agentic workflows, coding agents, or AI-powered engineering platforms in real software environments.
- Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar code bases, development environments, and technical constraints and identify practical AI opportunities.
- Technical credibility and fluency to coach, prototype, troubleshoot, and lead by example.
- Strong communication and change leadership skills, including the ability to influence teams without direct authority.
- Preferred qualifications include experience across software and embedded or firmware environments; IoT, industrial automation, instrumentation, or connected products; DevOps, platform engineering, architecture, or developer productivity initiatives; organizational change management; relevant industrial or water-quality markets; and AI governance, security, privacy, or compliant AI development practices.
