Responsibilities

  • Track Linux kernel developments and identify features relevant to Arista products and internal development.
  • Develop and maintain EOS kernel features, tests, and test infrastructure using C, C++, and Python.
  • Qualify CPUs, NICs, and other kernel-dependent hardware components for integration into Arista products.
  • Integrate new upstream Linux kernel versions into EOS and internal development environments.
  • Contribute kernel features to the upstream Linux community.
  • Own software projects from definition through deployment and maintain delivery quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer network issues in collaboration with Customer Support Engineers and customers.
  • Analyze and fix problems identified by System Test Engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.
  • Mentor new and junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience; or a master’s degree plus 6 years; or a PhD plus 3 years; equivalent work experience is also accepted.
  • Expert-level C programming experience is required; C++ and Python experience is desirable.
  • Significant hands-on experience troubleshooting, debugging, and developing Linux kernel features.
  • Familiarity with Linux kernel architecture, design, implementation, and the upstream patching process.
  • Understanding of IP networking architecture, design, and principles.
  • Applied understanding of modern software engineering principles and practices.
  • Strong software design, implementation, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in small teams and communicate and document designs clearly.
  • Familiarity with x86 and ARM CPU architectures.
