$189k - $255k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and strategy for a domain within the service mesh and edge tier from design through implementation, rollout, and long-term health.
- Lead technical design for complex systems while evaluating tradeoffs and long-term implications.
- Establish engineering best practices and operational excellence for owned systems.
- Solve ambiguous cross-cutting problems and identify productivity improvements beyond individual projects.
- Sequence dependencies, surface risks, and adapt plans as requirements change.
- Partner with adjacent teams and stakeholders whose systems are affected by the domain’s direction.
- Coach engineers through code review, design feedback, mentorship, and actionable feedback.
Requirements
- Experience owning the technical vision and end-to-end health of a domain or system in a high-traffic production environment.
- Deep experience designing, building, and owning production systems code in Go or another language, with understanding of controllers, reconcilers, event loops, and concurrency models.
- Experience operating large-scale distributed systems in production using Kubernetes, Nomad, ECS, or comparable orchestration.
- Track record of establishing engineering best practices and coaching engineers toward greater independence.
- Ability to collaborate with peers and stakeholders outside the immediate team.
- Ability to ramp quickly into unfamiliar technical domains and ship meaningful work within months.
- Pattern literacy across service meshes, edge proxies, orchestration platforms, distributed storage, and networking.
- Strong systems-level debugging and production intuition.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering practices including SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning, and incident response.
- Familiarity with service mesh data planes such as Istio or Envoy, or Kubernetes operator patterns.
- Broader engineering-community engagement through open-source contributions, conference talks, or published writing.
