Base Salary
$194k - $259k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and own reliable backend software solutions for cloud-based camera video services.
- Build and improve real-time video streaming, recording, storage, metadata, and indexing systems at large scale.
- Drive implementation through hands-on coding, architecture, code reviews, mentoring, and technical decision-making.
- Perform long-term operational work including performance optimization, bug fixes, feature additions, usability improvements, and automation.
- Document systems for maintainability and serve as an on-call first responder for team-owned software.
Requirements
- 10+ years of industry experience, including end-to-end architecture ownership of a production backend system.
- 4+ years designing, building, or operating real-time or low-latency video streaming services.
- Experience architecting cloud video storage systems, including storage tiers, lifecycle and archival policies, and retention strategies at scale.
- Experience designing video metadata and indexing systems for large datasets.
- Deep expertise in HLS/DASH, fragmented MP4, H.264, and AAC.
- Familiarity with adaptive bitrate packaging, HEVC, AV1, SRT, RTMP, WHIP, and MoQ.
- Experience with WebRTC, GStreamer, ffmpeg, or libav.
- Proficiency in at least one major programming language such as Go, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java.
- Extensive experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Ability to mentor engineers, drive technical decisions, solve complex problems, and support production systems.
- Experience with IoT or smart home video streaming applications is preferred.
- Familiarity with the Agile Scrum process is preferred.
