Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain C and C++ software for activity recording, planning, training, and file-management features.
  • Investigate and resolve complex software issues spanning multiple teams and products.
  • Evolve shared technologies used by Garmin Outdoor and Fitness product teams.
  • Break down ambiguous requirements, identify dependencies and risks, and develop estimates, milestones, and schedules.
  • Provide technical assessments of relevant expertise, technologies, and software designs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve software performance.
  • Advocate for and improve unit and automated testing for quality and reliability.
  • Contribute technical input to project leadership, program planning, product development plans, and concept documents.
  • Assess project feasibility and evaluate technical tradeoffs and risks.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced Software Engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field plus at least 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, with at least 3.5 preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience developing moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languages.
  • Proficiency with relevant software engineering tools, including configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzers.
  • Previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products, is preferred.
