Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain automated and manual tests for EMR integration workflows, FHIR APIs, and HL7 message processing.
- Validate FHIR resource conformance, HL7 and CDA message structure, healthcare terminology mappings, and API contracts.
- Own end-to-end testing of healthcare data exchange flows and maintain an ecosystem-level EMR compatibility and regression suite.
- Serve as the EMR compatibility subject matter expert for cross-team releases, assessing impact and defining test requirements.
- Partner with Engineering and Product to establish acceptance criteria, identify edge cases, define UAT coverage, and validate downstream behavior.
- Build and maintain test environments, mock EMR endpoints, and synthetic patient datasets for HIPAA-compliant testing.
- Integrate automated EMR compatibility checks and quality gates into CI/CD deployment workflows.
- Identify, document, track, prioritize, and verify defects with clear reproduction steps and clinical context.
- Maintain test documentation, traceability, and evidence supporting compliance and audit readiness.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of software QA experience, including at least 2 years focused on healthcare applications or EMR/EHR integrations.
- Hands-on experience testing FHIR APIs and HL7 message flows, including resource validation and conformance testing.
- Familiarity with EMR platforms such as Epic or Cerner and integration engines such as Mirth Connect.
- Experience collaborating across engineering teams as a shared quality resource or platform QA function.
- Proficiency with API testing tools such as Postman, REST-assured, or equivalent, including healthcare-specific API security validation.
- Experience writing automated tests in TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, or Python within a modern CI/CD pipeline.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements for test-data handling and environment management.
- Ability to reason through complex, stateful integration scenarios spanning multiple systems.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS-based testing infrastructure is a plus.
- Strong analytical, cross-functional collaboration, and written communication skills for defect documentation, test plans, and compliance artifacts.
