Responsibilities
- Own the squad’s engineering maturity, technical execution, and end-to-end delivery quality.
- Drive technical requirements decomposition, system architecture, and design decisions within the squad.
- Act as the final reviewer for code and architecture while maintaining modern engineering standards.
- Mentor and coach individual contributors through code-level feedback, structured reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance.
- Establish engineering practices for code review, testing, and system predictability.
- Partner with the Engineering Manager to execute strategic objectives and manage delivery dependencies.
- Participate in hiring loops, technical interviews, performance reviews, and squad health mechanisms.
- Align technical strategy with Tribe Leaders, Senior Engineering Managers, and Principals or Architects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience focused on scalable system design and development.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks, particularly TypeScript, JavaScript, Svelte, or server-side rendering frameworks.
- Proficiency in Node.js, REST APIs, Kubernetes, design patterns, WebSockets, Pub/Sub, and related technologies.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and complex technical problem-solving.
- Track record of shipping production-grade systems and navigating complex modern codebases.
- Experience managing squad-level execution, estimating delivery timelines, and unblocking technical dependencies.
- Experience translating ambiguous product specifications into technical tasks and architectural milestones.
- Experience mentoring and developing mid-level to senior engineers.
- Experience with Svelte and SvelteKit or alternatives such as React with Next.js, Vue with Nuxt, or Quasar.
- Proficiency in JavaScript fundamentals and Storybook.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Desirable: experience using AI-assisted development tooling, including prompt and context decomposition and human review of AI-generated output.
