Responsibilities

  • Capture and derive detailed firmware requirements from system-level requirements.
  • Architect, design, integrate, debug, and qualify firmware for complex FPGA-based digital systems.
  • Use firmware design techniques and tools from VHDL through FPGA place-and-route.
  • Specify timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place-and-route.
  • Integrate and debug systems where firmware interacts with hardware and software.
  • Support the full engineering lifecycle for next-generation surveillance radar programmes.
  • Enhance processes and ways of working across UK-wide FPGA and firmware delivery teams.
  • Mentor junior team members in firmware development.
  • Work within mixed-discipline engineering teams to deliver customer-focused products.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a similar engineering or science discipline.
  • Experience analysing system-level requirements and capturing or deriving detailed firmware requirements.
  • Experience with firmware design techniques and tools, from VHDL to place-and-route.
  • Experience with FPGA architectures such as system-on-chip devices, including Xilinx Versal.
  • Experience specifying timing and area constraints for FPGA place-and-route.
  • Experience integrating and debugging complex systems involving firmware, hardware, and software.
  • Experience working in mixed-discipline teams.
  • At least five years of UK residency and the ability to achieve full SC security clearance.
  • Desirable experience with MATLAB and Simulink for model-driven engineering and auto-generated code.
  • Desirable experience with Verilog, SystemVerilog, UVM, Siemens HDLDesigner, QuestaSim, DOORs, ReqTracer, or the defence industry.
  • A pragmatic problem-solving approach, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
