Base Salary

$165k - $200k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and build Cribl’s customer-facing metric store for high-volume telemetry data.
  • Develop scalable backend services and APIs for metric ingestion, storage, metadata management, and query execution.
  • Design time-series data models and storage patterns involving dimensions, labels, fingerprints, rollups, and retention strategies.
  • Improve query performance, ingestion throughput, storage efficiency, system reliability, observability, and operational resilience.
  • Partner with Product and Design to turn observability workflows into customer-facing capabilities.
  • Integrate metric storage and query functionality into broader Cribl product experiences.
  • Define engineering practices for testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational readiness in a new product area.
  • Coach less senior engineers and help them take ownership of larger technical problems.
  • Help plan and forecast quarterly goals across features, technical debt, reliability, and customer needs.
  • Support the full software development lifecycle from requirements and design through testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Share on-call responsibilities and perform standby, on-call, or off-hours duties when required.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be able to comply with U.S. government security requirements for access to FedRAMP-authorized systems, which may include U.S. citizenship.
  • Strong experience building backend services in complex, large-scale distributed systems is required.
  • Experience with SaaS platforms, data platforms, observability systems, or high-volume cloud services is required.
  • Experience with time-series data, metrics, telemetry pipelines, query systems, or analytical databases is required.
  • Experience designing secure, intuitive, and evolvable APIs and interfaces is required.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, Linux, networking, and distributed systems fundamentals is required.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS or another major cloud provider is required.
  • Experience with storage systems, query performance, indexing, partitioning, caching, or data lifecycle management is required.
  • Experience with Node.js and TypeScript is preferred.
  • Experience with ClickHouse, Prometheus, Mimir, Thanos, VictoriaMetrics, OpenTelemetry, Kafka, Kinesis, or S3 is a strong plus.
  • Experience with Mocha, Jest, Cypress, or similar testing tools is a strong plus.
  • Experience with Bitbucket, Jenkins, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, or similar CI/CD systems is a strong plus.
  • Candidates should be self-directed, detail-oriented, comfortable working in ambiguous technical areas, and able to balance correctness, performance, cost, operability, and customer experience.
