Base Salary

$103k - $155k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize real-time embedded modem software across protocol layers, drivers, and platform services.
  • Apply data structures and algorithms to build efficient firmware within memory, latency, power, and cycle constraints.
  • Own feature delivery from requirements and architecture through implementation, testing, hardware bring-up, and maintenance.
  • Integrate AI coding agents, prompt patterns, and agent rules into development workflows.
  • Build AI-assisted tooling for code review, static analysis, test synthesis, and crash/log triage.
  • Debug complex issues on target hardware using logs, traces, RAM dumps, and other diagnostic data.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, test, and integration teams to deliver production modem firmware.
  • Contribute to technical reviews and mentor peers in embedded and AI-native engineering practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong data structures and algorithms knowledge for memory- and cycle-constrained systems.
  • Deep understanding of operating systems, scheduling, concurrency, interrupts, memory management, IPC, real-time constraints, and RTOS internals.
  • Programming proficiency in modern C/C++, including C++17 and later, performance optimization, cache-aware design, and lock-free or thread-safe patterns.
  • Experience developing embedded software for DSP and Arm architectures, including SIMD/vectorization, DMA, and low-power design.
  • Experience debugging target hardware with JTAG, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, crash or RAM dumps, and log parsing.
  • Familiarity with device drivers, HAL layers, boot flows, and hardware/software co-design.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants and agentic tools to generate, refactor, and review embedded C/C++.
  • Ability to build AI-augmented workflows using prompt libraries, agent rules, retrieval-augmented context, and MCP-style integrations.
  • Experience applying LLMs to crash triage, log summarization, root-cause analysis, and automated defect classification.
  • Interest in AI-assisted test generation, fuzzing harnesses, and coverage-driven test expansion.
  • Ability to evaluate AI output critically against timing, memory, safety, and correctness requirements.
  • Experience fine-tuning or prompt-engineering code models and familiarity with embedding or vector search over source repositories are bonuses.

Benefits

  • Annual discretionary bonus program and potential annual RSU grants are available in addition to base pay.
  • Competitive benefits package supporting employees at work, at home, and at play.
  • The position is not eligible for Qualcomm immigration sponsorship.

About Qualcomm

10,000+ employees

Qualcomm is a public semiconductor company headquartered in San Diego, founded in 1985, that designs and sells wireless chipsets and platforms for mobile devices, automotive, IoT, and networking, notably the Snapdragon application processors and 5G modems. It also licenses a large portfolio of cellular patents to device makers, generating revenue alongside chip sales; its technology underpins many Android smartphones and emerging automotive and edge-compute systems, and it trades on NASDAQ as QCOM.
