Base Salary
$320k - $485k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own shared infrastructure for interpretability research environments, data systems, and compute tooling.
- Lead cross-team efforts with agentic engineering, security, compute, storage, and platform teams.
- Discover and resolve organization-wide developer experience issues.
- Help transition interpretability methods from research code into dependable audit pipelines.
- Build hardened research environments for direct experimentation with frontier model weights.
- Manage lifecycle, visibility, retention, and cost efficiency for petabytes of research data.
- Build self-service scheduling and capacity tooling for research compute.
- Create observability that detects infrastructure regressions before they significantly affect researchers.
Requirements
- Highly proficient in at least one programming language such as Python, Rust, Go, or Java, and productive with Python.
- Significant experience building and operating secure and scalable software infrastructure, including cloud systems, distributed systems, or developer tooling.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to work with researchers, platform teams, and security teams.
- Strong curiosity, prioritization skills, comfort with ambiguity, and willingness to question assumptions.
- Interest in interpretability research and AI safety; research experience is not required.
- Care about the societal impacts and ethics of the work.
- Strong candidates may have experience with GCP or AWS, Kubernetes, networking, infrastructure-as-code, identity and access management, sandboxing, red teaming, data warehousing, large-scale storage, data lifecycle management, compute schedulers, accelerator fleet management, developer productivity tooling, observability, or research acceleration tooling.
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in a relevant field demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
