Responsibilities
- Develop, review, debug, and troubleshoot secure, high-quality production software.
- Lead technical design and architecture for complex, cross-functional, enterprise-scale systems.
- Drive adoption and governance of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development tools, including validation standards for correctness, performance, security, and architectural fit.
- Define SDLC toolchain strategy, automation capabilities, branching standards, release workflows, and reusable engineering patterns.
- Own architecture artifacts, non-functional requirements, security standards, technical debt remediation, and platform resilience roadmaps.
- Lead incident triage, root-cause analysis, performance tuning, HA/DR strategy, failover testing, and maintenance activities.
- Mentor and coach engineers, conduct design reviews, lead communities of practice, and evaluate emerging technologies.
- Partner with product owners, architects, business stakeholders, and leadership on technical roadmaps and build/buy/adopt decisions.
Requirements
- Formal software engineering training or certification and 5+ years of applied experience.
- Hands-on experience with system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Experience leading responsible adoption of AI-assisted software development tools and validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, security, and compliance.
- Expert IBM iSeries/AS400 development experience, including DB2 for i files, views, indexes, triggers, stored procedures, performance optimization, and capacity planning.
- Experience with LANSA, Visual LANSA IDE, LANSA upgrades and migrations, IBM MQ, and CDC Replication such as InfoSphere CDC or IIDR.
- Java and Python development on IBM i PASE, integration-pattern design, and advanced debugging using IBM i tools and diagnostics.
- Experience leading HA/DR strategy, failover testing, PTF management, performance tuning, technical debt remediation, and production incident triage.
- Experience with Git, Bitbucket or GitHub, Aldon LMI, Robot Scheduling, ServiceNow, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude agents, and prompt engineering.
- Preferred expertise in CLP, CLLE, RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, ILE, service programs, modular application design, REST/SOAP services, event-driven processing, and asynchronous architectures.
- Preferred familiarity with IBM i Access Client Solutions, Navigator, IBM Rational Developer for i, VS Code, Code for IBM i, MIMIX, iTera, Quick-EDD, IBM PowerHA, ITIL, and CAB reviews.
