Responsibilities
- Map and instrument Vapi’s path from task to production and improve its sandbox, developer tooling, or validation infrastructure.
- Launch internal software-factory workflows that provide background agents with context, tools, sandboxes, telemetry, and automated quality gates.
- Own and launch Vapi’s platform for autonomous, background engineering.
- Build a harness that lets agents place real calls, measure latency and conversation quality, inspect telemetry, and iterate toward verified results.
- Design secure agent interfaces, MCP integrations, and sandboxed runtimes for safely calling APIs, running CLI commands, and using general-purpose tools.
- Build or operate online and offline LLM evaluation systems focused on accuracy, latency, reliability, and cost.
Requirements
- Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or infrastructure that materially changed how engineers build, test, and ship software.
- Strong software fundamentals across distributed systems, platform architecture, API design, CI/CD, and monorepo or large-codebase workflows.
- Practical experience building agent harnesses and using coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or open-source equivalents on real engineering work.
- Experience designing secure agent interfaces, MCP integrations, and sandboxed runtimes.
- Experience building or operating online and offline LLM evaluation systems.
- Fluency in at least one of TypeScript, Python, or Go.
- Comfort working across containers, databases, queues, orchestration systems, and modern cloud infrastructure.
- Knowledge of frontier models and techniques such as prompt caching, context compression, retrieval, and multi-agent coordination.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and equity ownership.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Quarterly off-sites and team events.
- Flexible time off.
- Catered meals, transportation, equipment, and a $10,000 annual learning and development budget.
