Responsibilities
- Own architecture for major services, integrations, and data flows within Internal Platforms.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, resilient, and well-tested Java backend services.
- Lead complex cross-functional technical initiatives, defining plans, trade-offs, workstreams, and delivery outcomes.
- Design reusable integration patterns across Java services, REST APIs, platform events, middleware, vendor platforms, and data pipelines.
- Establish engineering standards for API design, testing, observability, deployment, integration patterns, CI/CD, and release safety.
- Mentor and coach engineers through design reviews, pairing, code reviews, direct feedback, onboarding, and stretch assignments.
- Partner with Product, Operations, Support, Marketing, Risk, Compliance, Data, and engineering leadership on roadmaps and platform capabilities.
- Own production health, including SLOs, alerting, on-call quality, incident response, capacity planning, and post-incident follow-through.
- Engage external partners and vendors on integration design and technical escalations.
- Contribute to internal web applications and user interfaces backed by Java services when needed.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep Java expertise.
- Demonstrated ownership of architecture and delivery for complex production systems spanning multiple teams or functions.
- Strong experience designing APIs and integrating distributed systems, including consistency, failure handling, and service boundaries.
- Ability to independently define approaches for ambiguous problems and drive them to production.
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical standards through design review, code review, and coaching.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with Git-based workflows, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, production operations, on-call ownership, and incident response.
- Preferred experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka at meaningful scale.
- Preferred experience with cloud environments, especially AWS, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Preferred experience with highly available or regulated systems in gaming, fintech, or payments.
- Preferred experience contributing to internal web UIs or tooling using Java-backed web frameworks or modern front-end frameworks such as React or Angular.
- Preferred experience with AI model or agent platforms and production workflows, including Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, LangChain, Google Vertex AI, Microsoft Copilot Studio, CrewAI, or AutoGen.
- Preferred familiarity with AI-powered coding assistants and helping teams adopt them effectively.
- Nice-to-have exposure to Salesforce APIs, platform events, Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flows, or Salesforce certifications.
