Responsibilities
- Design and develop database-platform tooling and services using languages such as Java, Python, Go, or Rust.
- Automate manual tasks through semi-automated or fully automated workflows.
- Debug performance issues at the kernel, network, and database levels using system metrics, traces, and logs.
- Build internal tools that simplify large-scale stateful systems for product engineering teams.
- Support database release tooling, schema changes, data-center expansion, and bare-metal and OpenStack deployments.
- Participate in on-call rotations and perform root-cause analysis to reduce recurring operational toil.
- Collaborate with Compute, Networking, Storage, and application-engineering teams.
Requirements
- Deep understanding of Linux networking, file systems, kernel tuning, and distributed-systems principles.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or Go and the ability to write clean, testable, maintainable infrastructure software.
- Understanding of the operational challenges of running PostgreSQL or similar databases at scale.
- Ability to investigate root causes and implement durable fixes for complex infrastructure problems.
- Ability to communicate complex infrastructure concepts and collaborate across technical teams.
- Experience operating OpenStack or managing bare-metal fleets is a bonus.
- Familiarity with Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Vault, Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK is a bonus.
