Responsibilities
- Develop and support a highly scalable Catalog service based on the Apache Iceberg REST specification across hybrid cloud environments.
- Design and develop a Unified Catalog service providing a single endpoint for segregated datasets.
- Contribute to open-source projects supporting large-scale unstructured data.
- Work with Apache Iceberg, Spark, Impala, and Hive.
- Support customer deployments and escalations and improve product stability.
- Collaborate with product, data science, and engineering teams on enterprise data platform capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of industry experience or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years building scalable, high-performance large-scale systems.
- Strong Java expertise preferred, or experience with other object-oriented programming languages, plus strong data structures, algorithms, and clean coding skills.
- Understanding of AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud concepts, cloud storage integration, and access-control APIs.
- Familiarity with authentication and authorization mechanisms for public cloud deployments.
- Strong Java debugging skills, including analysis of logs, thread dumps, and heap dumps.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with geographically distributed teams.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and focus on software quality.
- Preferred experience with big data ecosystems, Apache Iceberg or Apache Hudi, REST-based metadata services, AWS STS or similar cloud identity and access management tools, database internals, query processing, query optimization, or Apache open-source contributions.
