Responsibilities
- Lead database architecture and strategy for GitLab.com's PostgreSQL infrastructure.
- Build proactive database health and reliability frameworks.
- Drive database excellence by establishing best practices and providing expert guidance.
- Own end-to-end observability and operational excellence.
- Shape GitLab's database platform evolution by evaluating modern technologies.
- Design solutions for scaling GitLab.com and self-managed customers.
- Build partnerships between product and infrastructure teams.
- Break down long-term goals into actionable steps.
- Maintain technical credibility and team empathy through coding.
- Ship working solutions to customers.
- Provide strategic context and leadership across projects.
- Deep-dive into critical technical problems as needed.
Requirements
- Experience architecting and optimizing PostgreSQL in large-scale distributed systems.
- Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals and performance optimization.
- Proven track record in maintaining highly distributed production database environments.
- Strong advocate for infrastructure-as-code and SRE principles.
- Ability to debug across the full stack from systems to frontend.
- Strong hands-on coding skills with a balance of leadership and execution.
- Track record of delivering results through collaboration.
- Strong opinions on database technologies backed by evidence.
