Base Salary
$178k - $225k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and roadmap of firmware test automation frameworks across products, targets, sites, and teams.
- Build production-quality automation for firmware features and hardware, including hardware-in-the-loop infrastructure with fixtures, device farms, power/reset control, instrument integration, and CI orchestration.
- Define test strategies, plans, reporting, and cross-team test plan reviews.
- Integrate firmware testing into CI/CD so changes are built, flashed, exercised on hardware, and reported automatically.
- Own framework reliability and flaky-test metrics, and build results, telemetry, and log pipelines for triage and release decisions.
- Debug failures across firmware, boards, instruments, fixtures, and test code, and partner with engineers on resolution.
- Participate in firmware design reviews and define diagnostics and monitoring architecture for photonic transceivers.
- Integrate with data center management interfaces and debug embedded systems using GDB, JTAG, and logic analyzers.
- Mentor engineers and document test architecture for non-specialists.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software development experience, primarily on embedded products, including test frameworks and infrastructure.
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Experience architecting and building an automation framework or HIL system from scratch that was adopted and used daily by other engineers.
- Strong Python skills for fixture and abstraction layers, hardware drivers, and plugin/configuration architectures.
- Working fluency in embedded C/C++, including reading firmware drivers or state machines and writing edge-case tests.
- Experience owning CI/CD pipelines that run tests on physical hardware, including runner health, hardware allocation, and recovery.
- A track record of delivering robust automation under changing requirements and hardware.
- Preferred: PhD, or MS with 8+ years in embedded test automation or firmware development.
- Preferred: experience with optical transceivers, photonic systems, precision analog/mixed-signal hardware, CMIS, OpenBMC, DMTF/Redfish, Pytest, Zephyr, FreeRTOS, Twister, ztest, Renode, QEMU, and optical/electrical test equipment.
- Startup experience and thoughtful use of AI-assisted tools in test generation, triage, or analytics are preferred.
