Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long planning horizon and connect it to business-impacting projects
- Serve as the lead software engineer for all EU card initiatives
- Own architecture across cards and collaborate with EU counterparts
- Develop and support real-time transaction processing, ledgering, reconciliation, and post-transaction systems
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs
- Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes that multiply team effectiveness
- Own team operations and availability through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call practices
- Set code review and design standards and promote quality and ownership through writing and technical talks
- Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Proficiency designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using technologies such as Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
- Experience developing frontend applications
- Experience delivering major features and system components or deprecating existing functionality through defined technical and execution plans
- Ability to write high-quality, understandable, reusable code and work from low-level language idioms through large-system architecture
- Demonstrated growth through gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team
- Ability to participate in a required on-call rotation
