Senior ML Engineer (f/m/x) - Computer Vision for Earth Observation

Responsibilities
- Design, train, and iterate on computer vision models for detection, segmentation, classification, change analysis, 3D reconstruction, and image matching or registration.
- Adapt state-of-the-art computer vision and remote-sensing research into prototypes, validated baselines, and production capabilities.
- Compress, quantize, and optimize models for constrained and embedded targets, including on-device and onboard inference.
- Build scalable training and evaluation infrastructure across cloud and secure on-premises environments with experiment tracking, reproducibility, and failure analysis.
- Deliver robust inference interfaces, model packaging, deterministic evaluation, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with data annotation teams on labeling guidelines and edge cases, partner teams on validated deliverables, and external researchers on technical findings.
Requirements
- Strong computer vision and machine learning fundamentals, including representation learning, supervision strategies, and evaluation design.
- Practical experience across multiple computer vision problem types with substantial depth in at least one area.
- Strong Python engineering skills and deep experience with PyTorch for implementing and training deep learning models at scale.
- Strong understanding of ML experimentation, versioning, and tracking.
- Background in remote sensing, computer science, physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to work with researchers and present findings clearly and efficiently.
- Willingness to work on-site in Berlin and eligibility to obtain German security clearance.
- Experience with constrained-compute or edge and embedded model deployment is preferred.
- Hands-on satellite or remote-sensing imagery experience is strongly preferred.
- A PhD in remote sensing, computer science, physics, applied mathematics, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with Ray, Prefect or similar workflow orchestration, AWS or secure on-premises/HPC environments, SLURM, Docker, DVC, geospatial tooling, and PostgreSQL is preferred.
- Experience with SAR and optical imagery, geospatial foundation models or VLMs, post-training VLM techniques such as SFT and RLVR, synthetic data generation, sim2real, or domain adaptation is beneficial.
